a CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY AND GENEROSITY AT OUR FIRST GIVING DAY

We are delighted to share the incredible success of our first ever Giving Day, which brought together pupils, staff, parents, Old Edwardians and supporters in a joyful celebration of the KES community’s spirit and generosity.

Giving Day began with infectious energy from our Pre-Prep and Nursery children, who raised £410 from a coin trail and contributed to our 1,552 mile challenge with half-mile playground runs. The afternoon saw an enthusiastic Danceathon in the Pre-Prep library, while Year 6 pupils from the Junior School added their own miles during their sports tour.

Day Two saw the Junior and Senior Schools join in the celebrations. Pupils and staff cycled, rowed, hiked and ran to reach 1,552 miles.  Activities at the Junior School included quizzes, talent shows, a walk to Sham Castle and carnival-style games, which led to hugely popular challenges being unlocked, including ‘Pie the Teacher’ and a confetti cannon. In Art sessions Senior pupils crafted beautiful Tudor Roses for a collaborative display, and the Headmaster’s Challenge at breaktime saw him face 126 penalties, 20 of which found the net!

We also saw our largest ever collection for Bath Foodbank, with well over the target of 1,552 items generously donated by families from across the School.

A highlight for many was the staff ‘It’s a Knockout’ race on the Astro, where teams from both the Junior and Senior Schools donned inflatable animal costumes to the delight of pupils.  Further entertainment was provided by KES Soul, performing from the balcony of the Wessex Building.

The day ended with the Wroughton Lecture by Old Edwardian, Natalie Hewit, who spoke about the making of her film, Endurance, which tells of the discovery of the wreck of Shackleton’s famous ship in Antarctica.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, supported and followed our updates on social media.  Your enthusiasm and support for the School helped us raise an extraordinary £126,287 which will go towards supporting the Wroughton Bursary Programme and two new outdoor spaces for learning and wellbeing.
