“It is my great pleasure to welcome you to King Edward’s Pre-Prep and Junior School. As a sector-leading school for the primary years, we offer a dynamic, nurturing and academically ambitious environment in which every child is known, valued and inspired.”
At the heart of our School lies the conviction that children thrive when they feel happy, safe and motivated. Exceptional pastoral care underpins daily life, ensuring that each child enjoys warm, supportive relationships with peers and teachers, and develops the confidence, resilience and enthusiasm needed to embrace new challenges.
From hands-on exploration in the Early Years, to the curiosity and adventure that define our Pre-Prep, and the increasingly independent, specialist learning journey of Years 3–6, every stage has been thoughtfully designed to promote awe, wonder and a genuine love of learning.
King Edward’s has a long and rich tradition of academic and all-round educational excellence. These values are upheld within a dynamic, modern curriculum delivered by outstanding teachers who create learning experiences full of enjoyment, inspiration and individual discovery.
While we are currently based across our North Road and Weston Lane sites, 2027 will mark an exciting new chapter as we bring our Pre-Prep and Junior Schools together on the North Road campus. This significant development - a purpose-built, future-focused home for children aged 3 to 11 - will unite the very best of both communities under one roof. It represents a defining moment in King Edward’s long history, creating a single, inspiring environment where every child can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
We will continue to build on the nurturing, family-centred ethos of the Pre-Prep, where children take their first steps into a world of discovery, and the rich, stimulating and adventurous culture of the Junior School, where curiosity is encouraged, talents are celebrated and every pupil is supported to grow in confidence and self-belief.
As we look to the future, we do so from a position of genuine strength - drawing on our tradition of academic excellence, our culture of care and our reputation as a school for adventurous minds. I would be delighted to welcome you to visit us, experience our community in action and discover what makes King Edward’s such a special place for children to learn and grow.
I look forward to welcoming your family to King Edward’s.

our new pre-prep and junior school
King Edward’s School is delighted to announce a major development that will bring our Pre-Prep and Junior Schools together on our North Road campus by September 2027. This transformational project will create a single, purpose-built school for children aged 3 to 11. |
“For pupils, it will open up a much wider range of opportunities from an earlier age. Younger children will have far greater access to facilities already available on the North Road site, including the theatre, sports hall, astroturf and specialist teaching spaces.”
SEAN PRICE, HEAD OF THE PRE-PREP AND JUNIOR SCHOOL
“Leadership in the early years is characterised by a willingness to allow freedom and innovation … This fosters a dynamic and responsive learning environment, underpinned by a strong sense of purpose and high expectations. Leaders demonstrate high levels of ambition and expertise, ensuring a clear commitment to pupils’ development”

Our Location
The Pre-Prep and Junior School enjoys superb, dedicated facilities in its own purpose-built and award-winning accommodation in an enviable location on the southern slopes of the city.
The beautiful setting is enhanced by the National Trust land that borders the School, and we are within easy walking distance of Bath’s World Heritage city centre.
The School is situated on the same campus as the Senior School and benefits from its superb facilities, as well as a number of its wonderful teachers in specific subject areas. Each year, the vast majority of our pupils move up to the Senior School to continue their KES journey and to make the most of the amazing opportunities that await them there.

Thriving and Flourishing
Pupils in the Pre-Prep and Junior School learn so much more in their time with us than simply what they are taught in their lessons; they learn to be curious, adventurous and self-reliant, to work successfully as individuals and as part of a team, and to develop skills for today which will also prepare them for the world tomorrow.

Brimming with Opportunities
Our co-curricular programme is varied and exciting, creating opportunities for the children to broaden their knowledge, to pursue their interests and talents, to stimulate passions or simply to try something new. “KES states that it’s a school for ‘adventurous minds’ and we agree. The engaging curriculum, wide creative arts offering and host of clubs, trips and academic competitions, should kindle curiosity and a love of learning in all pupils.”the good schools guide - 2025 |
