A purposeful journey through sixth formPreparation for life beyond KES begins early in Year 12, or before that, in Year 10, for pupils in our Senior School, and builds steadily across the two years of Sixth Form. Pupils are introduced to the full range of university and career pathways, supported by access to Unifrog and a programme of talks, mentoring and guidance that encourages thoughtful exploration, as well as an embedded work experience programme. As they progress, this broad understanding becomes increasingly focused and personalised, leading into the application process in Year 13. By the time pupils submit their applications, they are not only well-prepared technically, but confident in the decisions they are making and skilled in the requisite aptitudes of whatever their chosen pathway. |

HIGHER EDUCATION & UCAS
Our Higher Education & UCAS team provides a comprehensive and highly experienced framework for university applications.
Pupils are guided through every stage of the process, from researching courses and institutions and building a competitive portfolio of skills, to crafting personal statements and preparing for interviews. This support is both structured and personal, ensuring that each application is thoughtful, well-informed and reflective of the individual pupil.
Specialist advice is also available for overseas university applications, enabling pupils to access global opportunities with significant recent success in both Ivy League schools in America as well as prestigious institutions across Europe.
Competitive and specialist degree subject supportAlongside our broad UCAS programme, we offer specialist support for competitive and highly selective pathways. Pupils applying for Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Law or Engineering, for example, benefit from tailored guidance, including preparation for admissions tests and interviews, support in securing relevant work experience, and academic enrichment to develop critical thinking and a deeper exploration of their proposed field of study. Similarly, those applying to Oxford and Cambridge are supported through a focused programme of preparation, with 40 places secured over the past six years reflecting both pupil ambition and the strength of this support. a future ready careers education
Careers education is embedded throughout Sixth Form life and plays a vital role in helping pupils develop the curiosity and clarity of purpose expected by universities and employers.
Each pupil benefits from a combination of personalised guidance and wider opportunities. Individual careers meetings, both within school and with external advisors, are complemented by a programme of networking, regular speaker events, workshops and Careers Fairs and we have thriving connections to more than 100 businesses in the UK. These experiences allow pupils to explore potential pathways in a meaningful and informed way, often drawing on the experience of Old Edwardians and industry professionals.
real-world experience
A defining feature of the KES approach is the emphasis placed on real-world exposure, from networking events at school to a series of speakers from an eclectic range of sectors embedded throughout the school year.
All Year 12 pupils undertake a supported Work Experience Week during the Summer Term, with placements spanning a wide range of sectors, from law, finance and business to engineering, biotechnology and the creative industries. Recent pupils have worked with organisations including PwC, Lloyds Banking Group and the European Space Agency.
These experiences not only strengthen applications, but also help pupils to test ideas, refine ambitions and gain a clearer sense of direction.
pathways beyond university
We recognise that the most appropriate pathway is not the same for every pupil.
Alongside university applications, we provide full support for those pursuing degree apprenticeships, vocational or gap year opportunities. Recent pupils have secured degree apprenticeships with organisations such as AstraZeneca, Deloitte and AWE, reflecting the strength and depth of our provision.
Support after Sixth Form
Our support does not end at the point of leaving KES.
All pupils remain part of a “Year 14” cohort, with continued access to guidance and advice as they navigate results day and the transition to their next stage. Whether confirming plans or exploring alternative options during a gap year, pupils and families can be confident that the same support remains in place.
