Whilst we are very proud of examination results that consistently rank King Edward’s amongst the highest performing schools in the south-west of England, we also understand that academic excellence is only one ingredient in the recipe for happiness and success.
Children thrive most when they are given the opportunities to find their voice and to express themselves, be that through Sport, Music, Drama, Art, Debating, Creative Writing, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, CCF, Outdoor Pursuits or any of the dozens of clubs and societies that help our pupils grow into confident, engaging and well-rounded young adults who are ready to throw themselves into the joys and challenges of life beyond school.
Whilst our pupils often fly high in a number of fields, they wear their talents lightly. Aspiration and ambition go hand in hand with an understanding of responsibilities and a commitment to service, and KES pupils understand that they are only as strong as the community of which they form a vital part.
The quality of relationships here is outstanding; all of the wonderful staff – teaching and support – strive to bring out the best in our pupils, and the children respond in ways which are a constant source of delight and pride. They are confident, but not arrogant, articulate, but not brash, loyal, but not partisan, keen to give of their best, but also delighted to see others thrive in their midst.

Academic Life
As you would expect, teaching and learning are at the heart of what we do. Our curriculum ethos is to provide pupils with experience of a wide range of subjects in Years 7-9, from which they can then choose their GCSE options, with further specialisation at A Level. Throughout our forward-thinking curriculum, there is an underlying appreciation that pupils succeed best when taught interesting and engaging lessons by enthusiastic, specialist staff. We want our pupils to leave here with valuable study skills, having found their intellectual and academic passion and having fulfilled their potential in that area. |

the edwardian MAGAZINE
The Edwardian magazine is produced annually at the end of the academic year, where staff and pupils present a snapshot of a year in the life of the Senior School, recording events and activities from both inside and outside the classroom. |

DanWhat advice would you give someone when they first join Year 7?
I would join a club. This will help with making friends, boosting confidence and getting to know your teachers better. If you're into drawing, join the Art Club. If you're into sport, join the Tennis Club. There are so many different clubs to suit your likes that you are bound to find one you'll enjoy. |

EmmaWhat are your 3 favourite things about KES?
My three favourite things at KES would probably be all the sport we do, having the chance to make new friends and meet lots of new people and all the fun things we have gotten to do so far, including: teambuilding day, inter-form activities, all the bake sales, watching Year 7’s performance of Peter Pan and lots more. |

JackWhat advice would you give someone when they first join Year 7?
Don’t be scared to make new friends - everyone is new so despite it seeming scary everyone else is also looking for friends, so you definitely won’t be alone and as long as you are kind and smiley, everyone will want to be your friend. |

JoeWhat are your three favourite things about KES?
All of the variety in the Curriculum and Co-Curriculum respectively, all the fun activities such as team building and ice-skating, and all the sport you do is amazing, with fixtures, inter-form and PE just a few. |

LauraWhat clubs and other activities do you enjoy taking part in?
I do lots of music clubs in school, Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Choir and Steel Pans, but also Spanish Club and Creative Writing. I love Creative Writing especially because we get lots of great ideas for stories and a place to share our writing and help each other. |

MayWhat charity or community activities can you get involved in?
Whilst at King Edward’s School you are able to get involved in many activities to raise money for communities and charities. One of the most popular activities are bake sales where everyone gets involved to raise money for good causes. |

Emily - Year 7What was it like settling into Year 7? What things do you most enjoy doing at KES?
All the teachers have been very welcoming, and it was extremely easy to make friends with different pupils. I particularly enjoy Drama at KES because you can take part in the Year 7 drama production. When I did the show, we did Fright Size and one of the authors who wrote the script watched it and we got to talk to her before it started. |

Laranya - Year 7What was it like settling into Year 7?
Moving to the Senior School, I thought I would struggle to settle in, but throughout the first term the teachers at KES were very welcoming and friendly which made me comfortable and made settling in really easy. |

Rory - Year 7What things do you most enjoy doing at KES?
I've really enjoyed trying different clubs. I go to squad training every week and really like Coding Club. In the Autumn Term, I went to the Enterprise Club where I got to write a business plan and apply for funding for a business idea, which I then ran for eight weeks. I made a profit! I've also enjoyed all the inter-form competitions, either taking part or cheering my form on from the sidelines. |

Lucy- Year 7What do you enjoy about the Senior School?
I like all my teachers and they all make the subjects interesting. I like it when we get to work with a partner in some lessons and when we do group projects. |

The teachers are great and there are so many fun topics to study and learn - best of all, your imagination and curiosity will be ignited. |

Ruby - Year 7What do you enjoy doing outside of lessons?
I already love so many things at KES but what I enjoy most is the team sport. Highlights have included pre-season hockey, squad training, weekend netball fixtures, inter-form competitions and lunchtime football on the Astro. This has enabled me to get to know my peers during the different sporting activities. |
