At the Pre-Prep and Junior School, the wellbeing of every child sits at the heart of our purpose. We believe that strong pastoral care is inseparable from excellent learning: children thrive academically when they feel safe, supported and happy. Our experienced staff embed care into every aspect of school life. All teaching and support staff are trained paediatric first aiders, ensuring children are safe and well cared for throughout the day.

Our aim is for every child to flourish within a nurturing, diverse and inclusive community. A rich PSHEE curriculum, beginning in Nursery and developing throughout the Pre Prep and Junior School, equips pupils with the tools to build resilience, independence, confidence and healthy relationships.

Throughout their time in the School, our pupils are at the heart of the three-way partnership with parents and staff. Developing their voice is therefore essential to their progress. Their form and subject teachers help them to express their views, in settings such as the School Council, class debates and presentations, encouraging them to find the confidence to speak up and to speak out.

My son settled in wonderfully at KES. It is such a happy school and he has absolutely thrived and flourished.  We could not be happier with our choice."

CHILD FOCUSED APPROACH

We are committed to empowering children to express their views and play an active role in shaping their school experience. The School Council gives every child a voice, allowing their interests and ideas to influence academic topics, classroom environments and wider school life. As pupils progress into the Junior years, they further develop this confidence through class debates, presentations and collaborative work, supported closely by form and subject teachers.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

Outdoor learning is central to our ethos. Outdoor spaces support holistic development - physical, emotional, social and creative. Children learn through exploration, challenge and hands on discovery, whether climbing, digging or investigating wildlife. Seasonal changes, pond dipping, growing vegetables and imaginative outdoor play all enrich their learning and deepen their connection to the natural world. Our all weather surface enables sport and active play throughout the year.

SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE JOURNEY

As children move through the Junior years, our dedicated pastoral team continues to guide them through challenges, celebrations and moments of growth. We work closely with parents to form a strong three way partnership, ensuring every child feels valued, supported and proud of who they are. By nurturing self-belief and reflection, we help our pupils become confident, articulate learners ready for the world ahead.

Pastoral leaders meet regularly to review pupils’ social and emotional needs and to ensure that pupils have a smooth progression through the school. Wellbeing surveys are used to inform leaders’ perspectives so that pupils are well looked after."
