The wellbeing of each child is at the heart of everything we do, and we passionately believe that this is intrinsically linked to their involvement with, and motivation for, learning. The pastoral care of all the children in the Pre-Prep, is the uppermost priority in everything we do in the School.

Brilliant pastoral care is the bedrock of the School, and the support given by our experienced staff to all children is woven into everything we do during the day. This includes wraparound care in Teddy’s Lodge for parents who need to drop off or collect their children outside of the normal school hours and it also includes providing nutritious homecooked food in a nut-free environment. All our teaching and support staff are paediatric first aiders.

Our goal is for all children to thrive in our happy, diverse and inclusive environment. Our strong Personal, Social, Health, Emotional and Economic (PSHEE) curriculum begins in the Nursery and develops throughout the Pre-Prep School. We give every child the toolkit and strategies to help them to lead happy, healthy, independent, resilient and confident lives.

CHILD FOCUSED

The School is committed to empowering our children with the confidence to express their views, opinions, ideas and experiences. Our School Council ensures that every child in the Pre-Prep has a voice and provides the children with opportunities for their interests to influence the direction of the academic topics and to help shape their learning environment.

OUTDOOR FOCUSED

The focus on outdoor learning, including Forest School, is an integral part of our day. We understand that playing in nature supports our children’s holistic development and benefits their physical, emotional, creative, intellectual and social wellbeing. We want our children to learn from trial and error, to challenge themselves within our safe and secure setting and explore the natural world around them. Our outdoor space is an expansion of the classroom and a theatre for adventure and discovery.

“Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, puddles, trees, sticks and tadpoles.”
Brooke Hampton – Published Author

Our all-weather surface comes into its own at play time, for sport and for some after school clubs, and ensures that physical activities can take place all year round.

Teddy’s Garden provides our pupils with the opportunity to grow, cook and eat their own fruit and vegetables. The children learn the names of wild plants and notice the changes that each season brings to the world around them. They are encouraged to see and experience for themselves the wonder of nature, for example in the excitement of pond dipping and finding a newt or digging in the soil and finding treasure, such as delicious potatoes hidden under the ground.

HEALTHY EATING

The lifelong value of healthy eating is taught to the children as part of our PSHEE curriculum. Our catering team ensures that the pupils receive a delicious and nutritious balanced diet, offering hot lunches which are cooked on site using seasonal and locally sourced produce. The children receive a mid-morning snack of fresh fruit and are encouraged to drink water throughout their school day.

My favourite thing is being a bistro buddy and winning a trophy for having excellent table manners.
